Charlotte, NC and Savannah, GA

Looking for additional good ideas from the irv2 universe. Recommendations for RV parks in Charlotte and Savannah will be appreciated. In both cases desire urban or close-in locations, as we want to visit these old cites. Thanks.

We're going to Savannah this fall and are staying at Savannah Oaks Campground. We've never been there before, so can't tell you anything else. The add does say the downtown trolley stops at the campground.

I would suggest the Red Gate RV park. Only minutes into downtown.

Stayed at Red Gate last year, clean and very accessible. Easy to get into the city.

Savannah Oaks

Stayed at Savannah Oaks overnight on our way down to Florida for a Freightliner Rally this week. Sights were level. Many trees. Plenty of room and as noted the Trolly does stop there so you can visit the city without using a car. Easy access to the interstate.

You may consider the Tom Johnson campground at the speedway unless you plan to be there during the race weeks at the end of May. There are a couple more cgs in that area as well listed under Concord on RVPark reviews. They are also just a mile or so from the Concord Mills shopping area if that is of interest.

We stayed at Savannah Oaks last month - nice park. But we unwittingly tried to do some sightseeing in Savannah on Mar 13 and 14 only to find out that St. Patrick's Day is a week-long party in the city!

Just depends what type of campground you want. We stayed at Hardeeville Campground, Hardeeville, SC. It is a Passport America park but is bare bones. No bathhouse but does have a laundry. It is big rig friendly and a short drive to the Savannah Visitor Center. Lots of people like Skidaway State Park. Too many trees and extremely narrow roads so we do not like it.

Hi desertvince,
There is nothing close to downtown Charlotte. To the South is the Carowinds CG and to the North is the CG at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. For me, I'll stay at the Speedway. $25/night for full hookups. They are the poster CG for a gravel CG. Not a blade of grass in sight. No trees to block the satellite TV. Go to http://www.tomjohnsoncamping.com/Pag...ampground.aspx for details.

Thanks, one and all. With additional research, looks like we will try either Savannah Oaks or Carowinds CG. Has anyone stopped at The CG At James Island County Park in Charleston?

Yes, James Island is nice and convenient to Charleston. In fact we will be there about the 3rd week in May to enjoy the Charleston sites.

KOA Fort Mill S.C., just 3-4 miles from Charlotte is a nice campground, close to the interstate.

Ebeniezer Park, in Rock Hill on the lake. Nice place, public campground. About 20 miles to downtown Charlotte.
