Due to business, I will need to spend some extended time in Charlotte, NC. I'm looking for a campground preferrably south Charlotte, or northern South Carolina. Can anyone recommend a spot?

Thanks,
Ron

Carowinds has a campground which I have walked through but never stayed there. It looks pretty nice. Don't know about the price.

As of November 30, 2003 the carowinds campground closed for an undetermined amount of time. The park was still closed as of july 4th.

Other campgrounds in the area include:
McDowell Nature Preserve - 704-588-5224
Copperhead Island - 704-588-5224
Fort Mill KOA Campground - 803-548-1148
Pine Lakes Campground - 803-548-1111

I have stayed at the Fort Mill KOA Campground several times. It is ok. We plan to stay there again. Fort mill is about 3 miles from the Carowinds campground and about 30 minutes from downtown charlotte.

Be careful if you decide on Carowinds, besides the price increase(too much for what you get) from years before they have a problem with ants,
We were there about 3 weeks ago and paid the price they wanted and the only extra you get is 50amp and wireless internet. The ants will get you over night.

Mc Dowell is nice but simple. It is off Hwy 49 near SC. Exit I77 at Carolwinds blvd and turn south on Hwy 49. About 4-5 miles south on the right. The rates are the lowest in the area.

Hi Ron,
If the previous posts do not close for you, there is another choice. It does not fit your requirement being South of Charlotte, but it may be of interest to you.

Fleetwood CG is located in Concord, NC. It is at the Lowes Motor Speedway. $25/per night is the nightly rate. The CG is neat and clean. No trees (for me this is good). It does not have a pool. I do not know what the extended stay rates are. Not knowing what your interests are, when not working, all the NASCAR attractions one would ever want are near the CG. There is a RV dealership next door and a well stocked RV store. Because of the race track, there is a huge shopping mall, resturants abound, etc. It is right next to I85 (exit 49). There telephone number is 704-455-4445.

If you call them, ask about there sold out time periods and see if it works for you. Tere is a FMCA Rally in August and a race in October. Other than these two weeks, the CG has plenty or room.

Our son lives in the area. We stay at Fleetwood whenever visiting our son.
