We have arrived early numerous times and have been told that if the previous campers have left to go ahead and set up camp. If they are still there we would have to wait till they left. We have only waited once and that was only a 10 min. wait. Good luck and have fun!

I'm certainly not a scofflaw .. but, I've been around the block to recognize that rules that are as arbitrary as check-in / check-out times are often far more flexible under the right circumstances. Lots of reasonable situations under which the rules can be flexible exist than can be carved into a wooden sign or written in the "regulations".

I see absolutely nothing wrong with showing up early and asking if I can get in ahead of the check-in time if the site is available. Same thing applies to asking for a "late" check-out. The folks in charge always have the final say as to whether the couple of hours one way or another is OK or not.
My comment was not addressed to you because I do not disagree with you about "how to handle" early arrivals, and/or late departures.
(Sorry if that appeared to be the case).

Here's the reservation web site:

Facility Details - BURNS RUN WEST, OK - Recreation.gov

The walk up season (no reservations) ends May 14 then reservations begin.

Perhaps there is only a 'iron ranger' taking the payments at this time (put $ in envelope and drop in slot) and that's why no one is answering the phone - no one's there. Public parks sometimes have employees/volunteers do park or campground monitoring by way of driving from park to park in slow times. There could be that no one is stationed there right now. Also, this is in Oklahoma where there's been violent weather recently. Perhaps the park's been affected or closed temporally.

Here's the phone # I come up with: 580-965-4922

Many busy public parks frown on folks arriving early before check-in. The previous party has paid for the site until check-out and then the host usually goes through the site for cleanup. They sometimes don't have room for big RVs to be parking and waiting for the previous party to leave and it's actually rude to keep driving by the site asking, "when are you leaving"? We've volunteered in public parks and have dealt with this issue. If it's not a busy park then there's usually no issue in coming in early and parking somewhere.

Thanks all. I guess Ill find out what happens soon enough. I actually took a drive up there last weekend. There was an attendant but I totally forgot to ask her about the times 🙄. (Its not far from my stick n brick). I was checking for flooding problems but there were none.

That is the number Ive been calling but still nothing. I just hope there is a place to hang out if we are too early. I drive a big coach. Somethings going on at my house that I need to leave at noon. Its my first short trip of the year and hoping all goes well.

Will let ya'll know!

We've been hit with an early check in fee a couple of times. I mean we're 1 to 2 hours before the appointed time. To me, that tacky. If he site is empty, we've rented it, why .....
