Chicago to ??? Memorial day 2012

Want to take a quick trip no more than about 300 miles for 2 nights (both don't have to be in the same place. Just bought the moho last June and did some tailgating for son's football, one big trip to Memphis and New Orleans and we want to get out again. Our 19 year old wants to come along and we are bringing our 2 dogs (maybe). Don't want to just camp. Want some things to do/see. We have a class C (B+ I guess they call it) so we can do some driving around if needed. We have a cottage in Saugatuck/Holland Mich area so done that, but any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks.

My kids (now in late teens and early 20's...) love St. Louis and it is only 298 miles from Chicago!

We stay at the Casino Queen in East St. Louis. Campground is very safe and they will send a free van shuttle to take you to the train station. From there you can buy a day pass and hop on/off at all the attractions.

Phillies are in town over Memorial Day so you can catch a St. Louis Cards game in the new stadium. Ride up to the top of the arch is really cool. Also there is an Imax theater. You can also tour the Budweiser plant!

Good Luck

Good luck in finding a campsite on Memorial Day weekend without a reservation. You better check a CG in the area and see if you can get in, as I said good luck. We checked a few State parks here in WI. on just random off weekends and they were booked solid.

You'll find just about every campground in desirable locations on every holiday weekend will be booked up. It's not surprising when you compare the increased population in the last 25-30 years, the increased interest in camping/RVing, and few if any new gampgrounds built in that timeframe.
