Question Colorado I-70 west of Denver

Heading back to Cal on 70. Any recommendations on RV parks in the mountains west of Denver? Also want to hit Arches National park in Utah. Any tips for there too?

We are currently at Portal RV Resort in Moab, Utah. Very nice. Arches entrance is just a few miles up the road.

A week or so ago we spent several days in Brekenridge CO. at Tiger Run RV Resort. Also very nice.

In between we spent a couple days in Grand Junction CO. The downtown area there is very nice. Shops, eateries, etc. We used the Elks Lodge there (must be Elks member).

So many options - Are you up for a little adventure?

Do we have time to see do a little more before you re-enter the Home State of California?

Simple option would be first when Leaving Denver - Head out through Golden and take RT 6 through the Canyon along Clear Creek, Beautiful drive, allows you to connect to I-70 just before Idaho Springs, Easy, Pleasant, Beautiful drive, we will always take this as we leave Denver into the Mountains - Bus route so easy driving.

Then through the Tunnel - still looking at the snow caps on the tops of the mountains, and Clear Creek is running strong. A Basin just closed (June 11) so you have missed any chance at sking. Gear down into Silverthorn, as was suggested you have the option of Tiger Run, in Breck - but I'd suggest looking into Leadville/Buena Vista/Turquoise Lake area. Two option on the road - Slide off and enjoy the drive on RT 24 around Vail and back to I-70 or, if you are really up for adventure take the BIG LOOP - Down to Salida - Gunnison - Ouray/Montrose/Ridgway/Black Canyon of the Gunnison NP - then back to I-70 through either Glenwood Springs -
Marble/Redstone/Aspen/Maroon Bells/Glenwood Springs - or follow RT 50 up to Grand Junction/Colorado Monument, both option are great if you have the time.

Then as you Head out of Colorado on I-70 into Utah try to Exit 214 to RT 128 which will follow the Colorado River into Moab and Arches/Canyonlands. IMHO the drive along the Colorado River on 128 is almost a Nation Park in it's sheer Beauty.

If you have more time let us know - there is so much to see and never enough TIME.

Hope this Helps,

We are going to take your advice. I got the time. We are going to spend 3 days at the Tiger Run Resort. Most expensive place we've been at. Then take the long loop to Montrose. So at Montrose where would you suggest we stay that night?

Look to Ouray area or Ridgway State Park.

Look these over to see what you might run into while in the area - Stan Parker's Photo Galleries at pbase.com - look under Colorado, Stan has put together a great representation of things to see across the US.

Just so much to see, touch and explore all over Colorado,

Think you are going to enjoy this Drive.
