From Michigan and have stayed at many of our state parks and also stayed in several of the Colorado state parks as well.
Michigan state parks usually have small sites, most not very level and packed in pretty tight. Must have recreational pass for all your vehicles...RV, towed, motorcycles. Pass is a good deal for residents now as you just pay a bit extra for your plates.
Colorado state parks usually have large sites, are really well laid out sites, nice fire pits, level, nice tables, shelters, and more. Get a free pass for your towed or motorcycles when they come I attached to your MH. Kinda pricy for a one night stay when you add the park pass and reservation fee, but all have been worth the extra fees. So far, Colorado has the nicest state campgrounds that we've visited.
We still prefer National Forest and BLM sites. Usually less crowded and quieter.
