I can not think of the name of this place, but as I remember it described to me, it is either a Corps of Engineer or National Park Campground near Tampa, and on the water.

Would anyone be able to help with the name of this place? I think it is Fort (something). Kinda vague information I know, but worth a shot. Heard it was a great campsite on the Gulf.

Thanks in advance.

I think the park you are describing is Fort DeSoto. It is a Pinellas County park. You can probably Google Fort DeSoto. It is on the Gulf and actually very near the town of Tierra Verde at the mouth of Tampa Bay. To get there from Apopka you would take I-4 to I-275 then through St. Petersburg and exit just before going over the Sunshine Skyway Bridge.
We spent a week there last October in site number 213 (I think). There are several sites from maybe 195 through 220 that are literally on the water. They have electric and water and a dump station. Very nice park.

Yes, that's the place. I'll go a Google Search. Glad to hear that you would recommend it.

If / when you do go there be sure you take all you need with you. Buying anything in the closest "town", Tierra Verde, is very expensive.

Thanks for the heads up. Are the waterfront sites pull in, or back in? Back in would defeat the purpose of the waterfront view.

The ones I referred to are back-in. If you are sitting outside the veiw is much better than through the windshield
