Corpus Christi/San Antonio/Austin

Hi all, we are a few weeks away from a January Texas swing before working our way back east towards New Orleans and Florida. Looking for thoughts on campgrounds in Corpus Christi area, San Antonio and Austin. We are traveling in a 39 foot Class A with tow vehicle and three dogs. Thanks ahead of time for any input.

That is a big area, are you looking for sites in town, or just in the region?

Keep an eye on the weather. That is prime ice storm season in the hill country.

We are spending January in Texas, with a week in San Antonio and a week in Austin. We are booked at Traveler's World in San Antonio and at Austin East KOA in Austin. We have tickets for an Austin City Limits show while there!

I can't give any info on either of these two campgrounds because it will be our first time at each.

Regards.

Chuck

Although this is a vote against a little more info would be more helpful.
The thing(s) that make you not want to go back might not be important to others. ex. no pull-throughs, too many kids, etc.

Cold, dark, poorly lit showers. Floors in showers dirty. Our pad had no vegetation off pad, it rained and we contended with mud for two days.

The 2 gals running office barely acknowledged us when we came in.

Many people use the word "campground" to describe any place they can pay money to park their RV overnight and sleep in it. I don't use RV Resorts(too many bright lights and yappy rodents on leashes,) RV Parks (too many RVs packed side-by-side like sardines) and any place that spells Campground with a K(well...just because.) I'm not sure if I can help you if you're looking for those types of "campgrounds."
From south to north in the great state of Texas I like Goose Island State Park near Rockport, Padre Island National Seahore near Corpus, Goliad SP near Goliad of course, Garner SP near Uvalde, Guadalupe River SP due north of San Antonio and Potter's Creek COE campground on Canyon Lake near New Braunfels.
D'Vine Home Cooking on Potter's Creek Road is in a small house turned into a fantastic small restaurant run by a young (to me) couple who do Mexican food right.
As a teenager my friends and I loved to go to Garner SP in the summers to drink beer, meet girls and dance to good live country music on summer weekends. The CCC built a nice building out of native rock with a nice outside concrete dance floor sorrounded by a curved low wall/bench of rock. They may still be having bands on Saturday nights.

We've been there and really liked it. Many use their own bathrooms and if it had been raining naturally the floors are dirty. You can't control the weather.

Our particular pad.... had zero grass. All dirt. It rained, turned to mud.

Why have bathrooms/ showers if you don't maintain them?

Port Aransas Texas has some nice RV parks close to the beach. It is a small community that caters to winter Texans. Port A is 40 miles from Corpus Christi.
