Cottonwood Arizona

Any suggestions for this area? We are exploring Arizona and this is the next to last for places to visit in our bucket list, the last being the northwest corner of the state. We are planning on staying in the area for a week in mid October.

We stayed at J&H RV Park ( J & H RV Park ) in Flagstaff, wonderful place, then took the Jeep and headed south exploring........Flagstaff is a good central location for exploring a 100 - 150 mile radius, might be cool in Oct. though? Make sure to go and tour Route alt.89.......great road.

Don't recall the state parks name but we spent a few days there thawing out after being frozen off the S rim of the Grand Canyon a few years ago. As I recall prices low and plenty of room in October. ;-)

Dead Horse Ranch State Park in Cottonwood is an excellent place to stay. Beautiful park and convenient to both Jerome and Sedona by car. I believe it was $27 including electric and water with dump station at exit. There are a couple of small ponds for fishing, nice hiking and you can take horseback trail rides from the park.

Here are a couple in the Cottonwood area that we have stayed at and enjoyed. Your satellite TV may not work at Rancho Sedona due to the tree canopy.

We plan on being in Cottonwood - Dead Horse State Park the middle of September. Some of our group backed out of the Grand Canyon/Bryce Canyon trip. So wife and I are going to do Grand Canyon and Sedona/Cottonwood. Pick up Bryce Canyon and Zion on another trip.

The weather in Cottonwood in October is great. Dead Horse is a nice state park.

As far as what to do, lots of choices. Sedona and Jerome have tons of touristy activities. Cottonwood and surrounding area is becoming know as an up and coming wine region. There are jeep tours, horse back riding and river Kayaking tours. There are 100's of miles of forest service roads in the area. An hour north you are in the pines, an hour and a half south you are on a desert lake.

Wherever you stay, make sure you stay in the Cottonwood area long enough to enjoy all of it. Tuzigoot and Montezuma's Castle, Oldtown Cottonwood, Jerome, and the drive North out of Sedona on 89A all the way up to it hit's I-17 south of Flagstaff. Don't forget the drive from Jerome to Prescott on 89A. Just make sure you leave your MH, 5th Wheel or whatever at the RV Park. Just gotta love the Verde Valley.
