Crater Lake & Mt Saint Helen

Looking for RV Park recommendations. We are heading north to Crater Lake then would like to check out the Mt Saint Helen area. We like quiet and cool (temperature) parks.

Many thanks in advance

For Crater Lake both of these are just about equal distance away and both are great with large roomy sites: Collier Memorial State Park on Hwy 97 at Chiloquin, OR and Joseph H. Stewart State Rec Area on Hwy 62.

For Mt. Saint Helen there are two view points and we've done both. One was a private park on 504 off I-5 at Toutle River RV Resort which has large sites. It's a short drive to the Visitor Center.

For a completely different view we stayed off Hwy 12 at Iron Creek national forest campground which was close to Windy Ridge Viewpoint. We enjoyed both. If you stay here it's an easy drive for a day trip to tour Mt. Rainier Nat'l Park from Hwy 12 and Hwy 123.

We stayed at Kelso Wa, at Brook Hollow RV park and made a day trip to Mt St Helens.....Amazing to see the absolute power and destruction caused by that eruption. That is one thing that should be on everyones bucket list. You can still see acres of trees blown down still.

Great replies, Thanks again.

Another question, are reservations required for most of these, (summertime arriving in the early afternoon)? We make reservation when absolutely necessary but would rather just wing if possible.

Check the campground at Diamond Lake at the NW foot of Crater Lake. We have not stayed in the campground but have stayed at the resort. It is definately convenient to the park. There are also a number of forest service campgrounds in that area.

CoupevilleDF, we ended up staying at Diamond Lake. Very quiet and a easy drive to Crater Lake.
