Cumberland Gap National Park/Area

We are planning a trip this summer that will include a short visit to Cumberland Gap and Pinnacle Overlook. Any suggestions for must do hikes or places to visit, either in or around Cumberland Gap National Historical Park? Just looking for the "must see" items/experiences. Any recommendations is greatly appreciated!

May be farther away than you would like, but my suggestions would be Cumberland Falls, and the Big South Fork Scenic Railway which takes you to Blue Heron Coal Mine. They're actually pretty close together, and it's a fairly easy drive from Middlesboro.

Much closer, near Pineville, you'll find Chained Rock, and Pine Mountain State Resort Park - you must eat at the restaurant there. Great buffet, and stupendous view.

We will be in the area in June staying at Grove Campground near Corbin (USFS).

Plan to hike to the Hensley settlement in the Cumberland Gap.

I appreciate the information. ...being able to search some ideas by name, is very helpful.

There is a cave tour and a also as mentioned a guided tour to the Hensley settlement (if you don't want to hike but if you do hike take bug spray) available from the Visitor Center for a fee both are good. If you have time you are only about 1 1/2 hour drive to the Application Museum on I 75 a truly amazing place - kids love it. Then another 30-40 minutes to Oak Ridge, also worth a visit.

Thanks for the information! Exactly what I was looking for. I was able to read more about the items shared on the National Parks site, etc.
