Custer Park, where to camp?

Going out there next fall. Can't decide if I want to stay in Custer state park or a commercial campground. Have a 29' class c with 2 slides. We like more rustic camping with trees and some privacy rather than the cramped together clear cut campgrounds. Looking at Custer Gulch campground possibly. Anyone have any recommendations?

We have stayed at Custer before and enjoyed it. It is somewhat rustic with trees and shrubs around the sites, giving you some seclusion. A commercial type setting can be found at Holiday RV Park.

Oops wrong park I was referring to Custer State Park

As said, Big Pine CG is a good place to stay with great owners.

Thanks for the responses and recommendations everyone. I like the way that Big Pines campgrounds looks! Lots of towering pines just like home! Wait, why am I leaving home then??

No online reservations with them guess I will have to call.

X3 on Game Lodge. BIG level sites, power, immaculate grounds, spotless restrooms, walk to lodge for meals if you want, quiet, interesting programs presented several evenings each week, dump station, clean laundry facility.

We like Legion Lake Campground. There is a bike trail and a hiking trail that starts there. Also a small lake with rock outcroppings. And a small lodge. Sites are paved, large and spaced well. Only about twenty sites in the whole valley, as I recall. \ken

We stayed at Big Pines in Sept. 2013. They have big pines! They also have some lots that are somewhat separated with more space. Some are not so level, but we didn't have a problem. We had a 30' TT at the time and only needed 30 amp. Didn't notice if all sites had 50. We enjoyed our stay and if we are in the area again we would stay there again.

Tried to check online site availability for the times we want to go at Game Lodge but all the sites I was interested in show as not available.
I emailed Big Pines with a couple questions last night and got a response within the hour. Calling them tomorrow to make reservations. Looks like a good place to start for our first time out there.
Thanks again everyone for the input!!

We stayed for a week at Stockade North campground. Sites nice and big and very private. Lots of trees and easy access from a main road. Dump station just down from the park at RV park (slight fee) on main road into town. We were there in 2012 and bathrooms were new. Remember that the campgrounds in the park only have electric so plan your trip accordingly. We would definitely like to go back.

Even though we loved going to Custer State Park, twice in the same trip, we stayed in Hill City. Rafter J Bar Ranch, absolutely the cleanest park and close to "all" the sites, would stay there again in a second.
