Nothing specific staying at Custers Gulch a few nights. I know there are some short tunnels. The best route from 90 West?

Be sure to eat at the Black Hills Burger and Bun Co.

Great food and service.

From I-90 W I take exit 61 to 79 south to Hermosa, just past the small Flying J station on 79 turn west on 36, which turns into 16A inside the park, after Stockdale Lake there will be a sign for the left turn into Custers Gulch.
The short narrow tunnels are on 87, Needles Highway. A fun drive but not with an RV.

Jim2 nailed it. We go there quite often and this is the route we use. Take it easy and enjoy the scenery.
Believe it or not, there is a great pizza shop with delicious food out in the country at Hermosa. As you right onto 36, look at the pizza shop almost on the corner. Super nice people and great pizza. Used to drive all the way from the park over there for supper or sometimes lunch.
Envy you guys, looks like it will be late in the season before we get out this year.
Be adventurous while you are there. Explore the back roads around the park. French Creek runs through the town of Custer and into Stockade Lake. Wonderful history there. Custer camped along the creek in his expedition into the Hills and gold was discovered 1/4 mile from his encampment. One of his men is buried just behind the CG right outside the west entrance of the park near Stockade drive . Have a great visit!

I dove 87 in my dually some years back. The "highway" is narrow and crooked. I guess 2 40' DP's missed the 4'X8' sign at the beginning of the highway stating "low tunnel, no vehicles over 8' ". There they sat, towed's hooked up, looking at the tunnel; cars backed-up for 1/2 mile either direction. I would've loved to watch the resolution to their predicament.
