Custer South Dakota

What route is best to take from Branson, Mo. And what RV campgrounds do u suggest on the way there and at Custer, pulling a 35 ft FW.

Game Lodge Campground at Custer State Park is a very nice campground with plenty of sites for your rig

We stayed at Custer's Gulch as we like full hook ups and realized that the SP has limited hook ups....just a personal choice. Custer is a cute little town, and when we were there during the last week of July, 2012, they had a "Gold Days" celebration with a small town parade. It was quite charming.

If you want to drive interstate, take I-29 North out of Kansas City to I-90 West to Rapid City. If scenic route, I would look at going through Sand Hills of NE.

I prefer to stay in Hill City, SD area as it is more centrally located to other attractions including Custer State Park.

I second Custer Gulch RV Park. Have stayed there on two occasions , have not been disappointed. Quiet and clean. You can see the entrance to the park from your campsite. (Didn't mean to sound like Sarah Palin)

Just a few miles North of Custer is Crazy Horse RV park. It's high up on a mountain, which means cooler weather compared to Custer.

If you can get reservations at the Oregon Trail Wagon Train outside Bayard, NE they have a small RV park and make sure to get reservations for the cookout. I grew up in the area and trust me its the best steak cookout you will ever have. Its this quaint little blast from the 1860's past with a beautiful view of Chimney Rock. From there its about 3-4 hours to Custer. Here is a link.

Hill city is my recommendation...
For your situational awareness, 4-10 aug is the Sturgis SD bike rally. Everything goes up in cost and limited spaces. And bikers are everywhere! Drive carefully!!

Next year is the 75th anniversary! Wow! The 50th was crazzzy!! I expect the 75th to be even wilder.
