Custer State Park SD

We are planning a trip to Custer State Park in SD. We plan to go sometime during May and am looking for rv park recommendations. We will have our grand kids with us (14, 9 & 7) and be traveling from West Michigan.
Thank you,

We stayed at Rafter J Bar Ranch last year. Beautiful campground! Big sites. Clean bathrooms, and a big pool. Close to all the sights.

We did a trip to SD and Yellowstone this past fall. All my research lead me to Rafter J Bar as a place to stay. It is right outside of the Custer SP entrance. Another suggestion would be to consider driving Custer two days. We went twice. One day we were surrounded by a herd of 100 bison and watched them lounge on the road and directly in front of us in a parking lot. The next time, we saw only a few bison 300 yards or more away. The fist experience was awesome, the second was not.

We stayed at Custer's Gulch RV Park outside of the western side of the park last June. It was nice and quiet.

I live near the east gate of Custer SP. If you don't need a pool or such, stay at the park. State game lodge area near visitors center is great. Near wildlife loop. BTW, if you are only going to CSP, you are missing 90% of the black hills.

Consider staying a couple of nights in Custer SP. They have a horse back riding stable and free trout fishing for kids in stocked areas. They sometimes have a volunteer help the kids catch and cook the trout on the spot. Also sign up for the off road jeep tours in the park, they will take you into the buffalo herd wherever they are and remote areas the public can't go into.
Wind Cave SP just South of CSP is another CG with cave tours.
We volunteered in CSP the summer of 2014 and there is a lot to see and do there. One experience I don't want to experience again is threading my motorcycle through the buffalo herd when they were blocking the road.

I think these guys liked my bike and I was hoping they didn't think it was a female bike!
