Dallas area from Columbus Ohio and back

Hoping to camp this weekend to make sure everything is in good shape and working; we head out to the Dallas area (East Fork Park Northeast of Plano which is Northeast of Dallas), on Friday morning.

About a 1100 mile drive one way I understand. We are leaving from Columbus Ohio and looking at several routes.

GPS/Mapping seems to want to take us South through Cincinnati, Louisville, Nashville, Memphis, etc. Sounds to me like the route follows the BlueRidge Pkwy and Smokey Mountians. Another route takes us West through Indianapolis and St Louis, then South. Not very scenic but may be "easier" for the wife and she does not like the mountians, (but handled them well when we took I-77 South to Savannah).

What would be the recommended route? I am planning two nights out since we would rather not do 600 miles a day.

Thanks for any suggestions about route and places to stop if you know of any.
