Hi, I am planning a trip to Alaska in summer 2011,taking a 5er. Has anyone drove parts of the Dalton highway? I would like to go up to the Brooks Range and spend the night around wisemen and return. If I drove I plan on leaving the 5er at a campground and just driving with the truck. Or I have seen some fly/drive tours where you fly up spend the night and they drive you back the next day. Any thoughts either way from anyone?
Thanks alot

This is north of Coldfoot, AK the farthest north Truck Stop in the world, been there and have the tee shirt. Drove up in 1994 and spent 6 days there when the road washed out south of there. I just tent camped and left my RV at Olnes Pond which used to be a state park, was campground host.

You can only fuel at Coldfoot and Deadhorse once you pass Hilltop truck stop. If you want to go to Prudhoe Bay you will need to be on a tour.
