DC Metro

Hi:
Are there any good campgrounds near DC from which you can walk from the campground to the Metro? We stayed in one last summer that had a bus to the Metro but I would like to be able to walk a short distance to the Metro. Thanks for any help.

I don't think so. Northern VA Regional park has the two closest VA CGs. Bull Run Regional Park off I-66 near Manassas and Pohick Regional Park off I-95 in Lorton. Bull Run would be closest to metro. Pohick is near the Virginia Railway Express train that only runs to support workers ( no evening or maybe weekend service).

I'm guessing you're talking about Cherry Hill Park campground in College Park. The College Park metro station is just a few minutes away. When we've stayed there we drove to the station, but they also have a city bus that runs between the campground and metro station. I'm pretty sure Cherry Hill is the closest and most convenient to Washington.

Greenbelt National park is about a 1 1/2 miles walk to the College Park metro station. It has no electric, scattered water faucets and an on-site dump. But, is about 10% of the cost of Cherry Hill, if you have the old peoples pass. You can also drive to the Greenbelt station.

Be sure to see the Holocaust Museum. I am a Viet Nan vet and it had more an impact on me than the wall and that is saying something.
