Death Valley race track

Who has driven to this site? We were leery about the trip due to the warnings from the rangers and the signage, even though I had lite truck tires on my Jeep Liberty. Looking back I think I would have been OK.

Your Jeep would get you there and back just fine.

I have seen many passenger cars there, just watch for rocks in the roadway...

Depending on the last time it was graded it can get pretty rough. I wouldn't do it in a Honda car but your Jeep Liberty should do fine.

Keep in mind also that for Death Valley don't venture off-pavement without someone knowing when you're expected back and where you're going.

WE chose not to do it with all the warnings from the rangers. Also looked like along bumpy ride.

Good Luck, if you do it give us a report, Love death valley!

The run out to the race track may be dusty, and you may see some washboard, but it is definitely not "remote" or off the beaten track. When we went out during the winter, we probably met a dozen people coming the opposite direction, inbound and outbound. While we were there there were 3 or 4 other vehicles parked enjoying the place.

What race track are we talking about? Would this be the one near Cal City?

This one https://www.nps.gov/deva/planyourvis...-racetrack.htm

And it is very remote at 34 miles of unpaved road that isn't on the way to anywhere.

The concern of the NPS that they are warning about is that the unpaved road has sections with VERY sharp rock that can and occasionally do penetrate into standard passenger and truck tires and puncture them. But the odds of it happening to any specific vehicle is quite low but well above zero. It's all about your risk tolerance and your ability to deal with a situation in the middle of no where with no cell coverage and temps well above 100 F.

For sure I would not want to have a flat on that road if all I had was a vehicle with a space saver spare or a vehicle like a Fiat 500 that has no spare tire at all, only a can of fix-a-flat and an air pump.
