Hi,

We used to go to Sandy Cove campground near Bethany Beach, DE, (between Rehoboth, DE & Ocean City, MD). It was on the bay, but near the ocean.

It has closed, and we cannot see to find a good replacement campground in the same general area. Can anyone help?

I have not been to these CGs. They are in the TrailerLife CG Directory in the general area mentioned in your OP.

It's getting kind of restricted in this area since so many have closed. We have a seasonal site at Steam Boat Landing which is located just north of Lewes De. They stopped doing short term a few years ago and cater to the seasonal.

The De Seashore is very nice but not to many amenities but nice.

David's right. The pickin's getting slim. We always liked 3 Seasons in Rehoboth Beach, but it's gone too.

I've tried Holly Lake Campsites (on Rt. 24) and Big Oaks. They both offer full hookups but I didn't care for either one.

Cape Henlopen is a nice state park but the only hookup they have is water.

Delaware Seashore SP has full hookup sites. I've never camped there but looking at the campground from Highway 1, the sites appear to be rather close. It's the only campground in the area (that I know of) that's "at the beach". I understand that it can be difficult to get reservations there because of it's popularity.

Delaware Seashore State Park is right at the Indian River Inlet and you can walk to the ocean from there.

It reminds you of an old drive in movie, the way the rigs are parked (if you're old enough to have been to a drive in). ;-)

But, it's the closest park to the ocean.

There's a lot of construction there as a new bridge is being built right next to the campground.

As Frank posted, Cape Henlopen is a great park with ocean beaches, but water hookup only. There is a dump station.

There is another park near Lewes called Tall Pines. 99% seasonal sites, and the short term sites aren't much. I'd pass.

These are further south but may be worth the drive. Maddox Campground in Chincoteague or Kiptopeke State Park at the most southern part of the DelMarVa penninsula right before the Bay Bridge Tunnel. Both have full hookups. Kiptopeke you can walk to the beach. We have stayed at both and like them.

We have been to Treasure Beach RV Park, 3 summers ago (so take my comments as possibly dated). It was nice- geared most to the seasonal camper than the temporary, but that is to be expected. I liked it because it is on the bay and gave me a way to kayak with ease. The rest of the family thought it the location was farther south from some of the beaches they like (Bethany Beach & Rehoboth Beach), and the bath house was too long of a walk from the temporary sites (when you have little kids, you make that walk a bunch). The kids loved the pool. The playground was not much. For the most part, it was good, but the family as a whole (3 generations) wants to see if there are some other choices out there worth exploring. Personally, I thought it was a very nice campsite. I think they simply missed their old Sandy Cove campground and nothing else will take its place- they went there for a week's camping nearly every summer for over 30 years.

Like I said before we have a seasonal site at Steam Boat Landing. The campground is about 8 miles north of Rehobeth and not a bad drive at all. It is just far enough so you do not have to hit nasty traffic. The campground has about 40 open sites right now and I am sure that they are open to weekenders or week long stays. We are located on the Broadkill river about 7 miles to the inlet via water. There are launching ramps and docks for short stays. The campground has a nice pool with small playground. My son DJ's there three times during the summer and they have some kind of entertainment every week. This campground started off and a fishing hide out but the second generation owners have come a long way toward making it a nice vacation spot.
We have been coming here on and off since the 70's and still enjoy it. The location to the ocean and beaches make it a very nice spot.

If you would like any more info just PM me.
