Denton, Tx to Chicago area
We are wanting to travel from Tx to Chicago next month and would like to know the best source for route planning and campgrounds. We are new to RVing and want to try to avoid the big city traffic issues and concerns. So, how do you plan your routes and what source of information do you use? Thanks for any help!

What part of Chicago are going to ? We live in the western suburbs. Avoiding traffic in Chicago is almost impossible. Its full blown construction season....so be prepared for delays.

We plan the trip using Garmin Basecamp or any other trip planning software, then we use Allstays to look for CGs along the way. We only make reservations a day ahead so we can take our time if need be.

H-12Mike -
Do you have a spot in Door County ?
We usually stay at Peninsula State Park, but it only has electric (we're still worker-bee's, so just weekend warriors here)... Last year we stayed at Hy-land Court RV Park ( Hyland Court - Door County Camping).. It was nice and reasonably priced...
We love the area and try to get up there a couple times a year... Good luck with your trip and we hope you enjoy all that Door County has to offer !!

There are absolutely no camping locations in or very close to Chicago. Your best bet will probably be Fish Lake Beach Camping - Fish Lake Beach Resort. You will be a 5 minute drive to the Metra train station in Round Lake, and that line also has a station in Niles. There is free parking at the round lake station.

I wonder if Niles will let me park in my brother's driveway overnight?

We visit Door County almost every year. Fish Creek and Egg Harbor both have good campgrounds. Be sure to have the Fish Boil at Peletiers in Egg Harbor.
