Denver to Montrose Colorado

The old trip wizard and maps show 3 possible routes. Will pull out the Mountain West Guide later on and study up. Just wondering if there's a preferred route - 38' with CR-V in tow.

Not looking for the most scenic route - will CR-V that and explore when we get there.

Thanks for your recommendations and insight.

285 south to Salida and then 50 west wouldn't be too bad. Some of 285 is 2 lane, but most of it is 4 lane. It's a mountain road so it does wind a bit sometimes. it is a pretty drive most of the way.

That being said, my personal concern would be fuel stops and available mechanical help if something happened. For these reasons, I would elect to go I-25 south to Pueblo and then Hwy 50 to Montrose. It's probably 70-80 miles further but, for me, would be an easier drive.
