Does the Rio Grande Valley have Monsoons?
I've been watching the weather around the RGV and for the last week and the forecast for the next 10 days it has had high chances of rain and Tstorms every day.

Go toward a large body of water - or think back to your days at Keesler AFB - I was on A shift and had the pleasure of marching to ATC training classes at 6 a.m. in the rain and back at noon in another rain. On break the food truck and grounds were sunny and dry. There was another round of rain for B shift in the afternoon. I was there from Jan - May. Showers are ok. Now granted RGV is not right on the coast but fronts happen. I would not be concerned. Besides - you're only booked for 3 months. How bad could RGV be relative to the last 30 years of work!

Only two kinds of people predict the weather in Texas....
New comers
and
Dam fools.

In Texas it is 5 minutes for a changing pattern.

Finally. We have rain in North Texas. Hopefully, the lakes around the Dallas/ Ft. Worth area will benefit. Could sure use a few feet in Lake Granbury.

Right now the RGV (and most of Texas) is benefitting from the remnants of a Pacific tropical storm off Baja California. The jet stream is carrying the moisture over Texas where rain is being triggered along a cold front that's moving through.
Texas as a whole does not have a monsoon season like Arizona, but the mountains in West Texas do pick up some monsoonal moisture during the summers.

Hurricanes and tropical storms rotate counterclockwise and the back side or NW and SW quadrants get the least rain. Most of the rain is in the northeast quadrant.
We have had hurricanes go just east of Houston and the west side does not get a single drop of rain. The RGV will get rain if the storm goes into the northern Mexico coast.
