Ruskin isn't a place most just stumble upon.

You will be there when there is what may be the greatest concentration of Manatees in a confine area. You can see up to 300 Manatees and a lots of fish at the warm water discharge for TECO's coal power plant in Apollo Beach. TECO has a nice observation platform and educational display. If you'd like to swim with the Manatees, head north about 75 miles to Crystal River.

You'll be in the home of Ruskin tomatoes, enjoy some fresh tomatoes.

There's good kayaking at Cockroach Bay park leading into the bay or back into the tributaries. Another kayaking location where you can camp on the water is E. G. Simmons State Park. Most don't even know it exist.

There's not much in Ruskin but it is conveniently located between Tampa and Sarasota.

Where are you staying?

go to the Tampa Theatre for a Sunday showing --- its a restored 1926 theatre. The Florida Aquarium interesting for a few hours.
The Cortez Seafood Festival Fishing Festival - F.I.S.H - The Florida Institute for Saltwater Heritage is interesting. While there, go across the bridge to Ana Maria Island

We lived in Apollo Beach and my wife frequented this meat market frequently. Not a tourist attraction, but you do have to eat. Speaking of eating, Apollo Beach's best restaurant is Circles.
