Driving from PA to FL Gulf
Now that we finally bought a class a motorhome my wife wants to explore the idea of driving to our parents home in Marco Island, FL next summer.
Personally I would rather jump on a plane for 2.5 hours, but I love her excitement and am tossing around some ideas.
This trip will be with our two kids- 13 and 10 and another couple who have a 6 year old. So, I would like to split the trip in half which places Myrtle Beach as a perfect destination. It sounds as if Pirateland and Ocean Lakes would be great parks to hit one on the way down and one on the return trip.
We only have so much time and would like to spend at least 5 days in FL. So, I am guessing 2 nights stay at both RV Resorts should be enough to recoup and relax before heading out for the second leg. So 6 days would be spent traveling and 5 days in FL.
Once we arrive in Marco we would then need to store our motorhome at an RV park for the 5 days we are in Marco Island. My parents live in a condo, so there is no parking for a 31' RV.
Also, is there someplace else of interest we should stop on the way back rather than hitting MB a second time? Granted, of interest for a 6, 10, and 13 year old.
Any input would be great! Am I being too much of a newbie or does this sound like a good starting point?

Are there enough seat belts for the seven people traveling in your motorhome?

You are saying that you want to do this next summer ... there are lots of months between now and then. Why not take the MH out for a long weekend a couple of times before it snows up there? And then when the weather warms up in the spring? That will tell you whether or not it is a good idea to go that far with that many people in the MH.
If it were me, I'd go .... but we took our MH from Louisiana to Florida the day after we bought it - in the dead of winter. That is why you bought one - to use it with the family, correct? Then do it ... nothing worse than one sitting for months and months. MH and all "campers" like to be taken out and exercised!

"cocktails for six, dinner for four, sleep two"
The above is trite but still good advice.
You are asking for some major misery with that many people in that small an area for that long. You may be good friends now, but chances are you will not be when you get back to Pennsylvania.

Doc, this made me laugh!
I can so honestly see your point.
Or in other words 2.5 hours in a plane makes for better friends than 3 days on the road?

OK, well you guys helped me persuade my wife into flying.
I think it would be a great trip for the four of us- wife and kids.
We are actually thinking of going to Pirateland next summer. But with the other couple and their 6 y.o., yeah, we're flying!

Glad to see you decided to fly down there. Between Pirateland and Ocean Lakes, we like Ocean Lakes better but both are good.
Safe Travels,
Gary

Would you consider Pirateland to be geared for a teenager?
It appears the waterpark is more of a splash zone than an actual park. ????

Lakewood (between Pirateland and Ocean Lakes ) has a brand new real water park with a lazy river. Love Pirateland but the best water attraction now has to be Lakewood.
