We're looking to make our first visit to Yellowstone in late May, in our 35' motorhome. Are all roads in the park navigable by an RV of this size? Any recommendations on where to go; which campgrounds; etc.?

No problem. Fishing bridge is only campground with full hookups ($52.00) great location

We were at Fishing Bridge last June and you should not worry about getting around in the park campgrounds or main roads. Of course, seeing the park by toad is best.

We were there in 2008 with our 4 kids. We towed a 40' fifth wheel with not trouble. Stayed 3 nights or so at Fishing Bridge then moved to Gardiner, MO for a few days. It gave us a closer home base to tour the entire park without extremely long drives at the end of the day.

We stayed at Grizzly RV iin West Yellowstone, nice park, good place to stay.

Most all the old 'bad spots' in the park road system have been greatly improved. I wouldn't go in or out the NE entrance (Cooke City) in an RV, but it's a scenic route in a car. Likewise, if you go down into Grand Tetons and town of Jackson, don't plan route up Teton Pass on WY 22 to Driggs, ID and Idaho Falls. 10% up and down grades.

Just keep your eyes on the road as idiots are known for slamming on the brakes if they see animals along the road.

This is how the Grand Loop Rd (near Mt. Washburn) looked last July. Might be fun in a motorhome.

I entered Yellowstone from the east (Cody WY) last summer. My GPS, an RV model, kept wanting to detour me to the south entrance as large truck traffic in Yellowstone is limited. Guess NUVI thought I was a semi. We stayed at Grizzly RV park in West Yellowstone, very nice, and Grand Teton RV Resort in Moran WY, a place to be avoided at all costs. $81/night with rodent holes all over the place. Be careful pulling into parking lots in the park, not all are RV friendly.

And if you come from the east, Buffalo to Cody on US-16, going up and over the Powder River pass at 9665 feet , take your time and use your low gears coming back down. Only 8% but really long. Spend a day in Cody if you have the time.

I thought Old Faithful was overrated it didn't do much more than sputter, but don't miss the grand canyon of Yellowstone or Prismatic Lake.

We were just there September 14-19, 2013 and found out WHY Fishing Bridge closes September 22 (pic attached)

Even so, our 40 Ft plus Toad had no problem coming in the west entrance and going to Fishing Bridge (other than the wildlife traffic jams) and then heading out the south entrance to the Grand Tetons.

That's Dunraven Pass, between Canyon Village and Tower. Your photo shows the road is actually wider than it used to be. When we were there in late Sept. it was finished, wide, no potholes or drop offs without guardrails. and with places to pull off, something it never had before. It's always been a good place to spot big horn sheep and grizzlies, we saw both this last time through.

If you are going in late May, be prepared to take warm things, esp for nighttime... flannels might be called for... weather varies quickly and dramatically there.
We were there in July last summer... was great... old faithful did it's thing right as we got to the viewing area...be sure you are upwind from it or else you'll get rained on with stinky sulfer water!
