Yes, the ocean will be too cold, but walking on the beach with the kids would be do-able. Myrtle Beach Travel Park is very nice. We have then there 5-6 times in the last 20 years....Here is a link to our Aug 10' trip with pictures of Myrtle Beach Travel Park. I do say there showerhouses are very modern. They have both a indoor and outdoor pool. MBTP is located between Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach on Restaurant Row. Off season price are much better then the $65 per night we paid.

There is a very nice KOA right in downtown Pidgeon Forge next to
a park, and on the town shuttle route.

Although we have never been to Myrtle Beach (DH will remedy that soon as he loves to golf), we have gone to the Gatlinburg area for 20 years, since our boys were 10 yrs old. We camped at KOA in Pigeon Forge the first time - kids enjoyed it but very touristy. Think Niagara Falls - and tons of outlet malls to go with the shows and go-karts. That type of thing. Gatlinburg has a lot of quaint shops and also I second the Aquarium there. It is awesome. But you have many fudge shops and Ripley's museums too. We camped at Twin Creek RV Resort which borders Great Smoky Mountain Nat'l Park. We have always gone for the park. Hundreds of miles of hiking which our kids always loved. All different skill levels. Much to learn if you're into history as they can learn about logging and pioneer living with beautiful scenery. Wildlife is abundant and also near the Cherokee Indian reservation. Temps when we go in early April are as high as 83 and as low as snow on the mountaintops. That is wildflower time as well. We love it. Just depends on what you like to do - camping with the family anywhere... IMHO ... you can't go wrong. These are memories that last forever. Our sons (with their families) still talk about those great trips to the Smokies. Enjoy!

Thanks for all the GREAT responses! We are now thinking about Hilton Head as there will be a PGA Tournament in town over the holiday. I would love to take my son to see the action for a couple of hours.

However... The second straight "snow day" here in PA, and the school has not yet posted make up days. Hopefully Easter Break will not be used... LOL

If you do end up choosing Hilton Head and have not been there camping before, be reminded that there are only a couple of campgrounds on the island and you should call now for reservations. They may be full already if it will be spring break. However, you can look at other locations near by if they are full. I highly recommend Charleston, SC area.

I'm afraid you are most likely too late.
