Ellijay Georgia

Planning a fall trip, any tip on campgrounds there ?? Looking a Plum Nelly Campground, looks like a nice Ma & Pa place and a good rate.

Thanks Jim

Check out US Army Corps of Engineers "Doll Mountain". Nice campground, Nice lake. If you have your National Parks card it's pretty cheap.

We're going to Doll Mountain Oct 20th for three nights. From there probably over to Blairesville or maybe Clayton/ Dillard for a couple of days.

Rideandslide, Hwy 515 has no steep grades or hard curves and will be no problem. As best I recollect, you won't have grades and hard curves going to Plum Nelly either, albeit the road is a bit narrow. I'm never stayed at Plumb Nelly but I've relatively familiar with Ellijay.

When are you going? I own a lot in Choestoe Falls RV just outside of Blairsville. Large lot, wide concrete drive / pad, water, electric, sewer.

We are going to be there in all of October and first two weeks of November, but other than that it will be empty.

If you are going outside the time we will be there call me 863-206-3464.

The road going to Doll Mt Cg is not bad but a little windy, just take your time.

It is a very nice and clean. We liked it very much.

We stayed 2 nights at Plum Nelly this week. Charming lady called Tina looked after us. Easy access to site. Open area not fenced. Parking on grass. Handy to plenty of restaurants Wallmart, other stores and places to eat, and Ellijay itself. Rained heavily while we were there but had no difficulty getting onto and out of site. We used our toad to tour around the area. Have no experience of camping there in the Fall.

Thanks Kenandarbie !

I think we will be going there in late October and we have decided to rent one of there Cabins, instead of towing our TT , the difference in gas use more than pays for the cabin. How was the park as far as scenic value ?

Jim

Hi Jim. The scenic value of a park is in the eye of teh beholder. In this case I think that the park itself has limited scenic value, but the area generally is scenic. In fall I expect that it would be spectacular - but we are British and love USA fall colours. The park and cabins could be described as quirky, relaxed. I have a couple of photos I would gladly send you. Ken.

For what its worth, as best I remember Plum Nelly is close to town and the highway. If you're going to rent a cabin, you may want to look around a little. Actually, Blairesville has better scenery to me. My incremental diesel cost is about 17 cents a mile when towing. My additional fuel cost to and from Ellijay from middle west Georgia is about $70. As a old cogger I get a big break on parking fees at the Corp of Engineers Doll Mountain (3 nights for $38). I couldn't rent a cabin for more than a day to break even.
