As I only live 45 minutes from Penn Yan, there are a lot worse areas to visit. The Fingerlakes are a beautiful area. Maine is a pretty good drive with only 4 days. I would think you would spend two of them driving. You might want to consider taking in local sights.

Not a bad idea Tim! I just made a reservation at the Canandaigua / Rochester KOA as a backup plan... A wine tour would not be a bad idea

Weather is now showing rain/snow for Sunday - now we can make the decision at the last minute. Worst that can happen is I
'm out $57.00 if I don't cancel one in time!

Tons of winery's and brew pubs. Hammondsport on the south end of Keuka Lake offers some boutique shopping and lots of winery's. Corning is a nice town with good restaurants and Corning Glass can be a fun trip. Watkins Glen, with its racing heritage might be of interest. Letchworth State Park is worth seeing, known as the Grand Canyon of the east. I live near Canandaigua if you end up in the area. I can make a few more suggestions, but in general it is a beautiful area.

I agree - you are in one of the most beautiful parts of New York State.

You may consider spending your time off there.....Seneca Falls is said to be the town Frank Capra based his fictional town of Bedford Falls on in the movie, "It's a Wonderful Life". There is Watkins Glenn - probably no racing but perhaps a visit to the track. As Tim Fox said.....lots of stuff right where you are and many people head to the Finger Lakes for their vacation.......

Have fun......the colors presently have to be breath taking.........

I’d like to second Watkins Glen and Letchworth, both are worth the trip, hiking the Glen is one of my favorite walks, it’s beautiful.

You could do worse than to swing by Rochester or Syracuse for some Dinosaur BBQ.

And don’t forget Niagara Falls. There is so much to see in western New York, I have made many trips over the years, especially back in my “biker” days.

I think I would see if you could leave the RV where it's at for a few days and go visit family. Stay with family or find a nice hotel.

We have decided to stay in the Finger Lakes region, Freeport will have to wait till next year...

So I located a trout stream not far from where we will be - Naples Creek, so a half day or so of fly fishing is now in the plan ..

The more we research, the more we find to do! I think it will be a nice getaway!

If you access creek in Naples, make sure to take the "high" road back out of town( north). Lookout over Canandaigua Lake. Travelled a bit and still one of the best views I've seen. I Don't fish, but Sutton Tackle right in town might offer some advice. Middletown Tavern is good burger and beer joint. Naples Hotel for food is worth checking out. Bristol Mtn. Ski area has chair running till end of month and also have zip line and ropes course. And all this within 25 miles. Maine and Freeport is worth more than a quick trip and the Fingerlakes will give you plenty to do.

Ah.. good question!! There may be some small hatches if its a warm day but I expect nymphs or possible swinging a streamer might be order of the day!

Never hurts start off with a beadhead prince nymph :-) I missed the drake hatch on Penn's this year so this might help fill the gap till the steelhead are running

Grew up fly fishing in Pennsylvania where a light Cahill was always popular. Guess what...it's popular in California too.

Upper Sac, Klamath, Battle Creek, McCloud... I do love fishing NorCal! Oh and of course hanging out at The Fly Shop in Redding :-)

A large part of why I bought a coach was to travel around and go fly fishing! (wife might not completely agree with that LOL!)

If you are looking for something to do while in New York state are there any casinos around? Some have campgrounds. Most will let you boondock on their premises. There may be some Indian casinos in NY or PA. I plan on boondocking next month at Hollywood Casino at Charlestown, WV. I've never done that so I plan to eat at the smorgasbord, play the slots, maybe bet on a horse race, sleep in the RV and then go home the next day.
