Boy oh boy, Monaco Int'l promised front row seats and they weren't kidding. Don't have to leave the comforts of home... this mornings launch just began. Today's dawn patrol included the Stars and Stripes... beautiful!

We were up for 1-1/2 and down to 5% fuel. We ended up in the far west. Awesome day. ....continued enjoyment for you and those balloons. Raining now - let's hope for a good ascension tomorrow morning.

It is on our bucket list also... those pictures look great. For those who are not staying at the field level and staying at a RV Park near or close to where everything is happening. what is the name of the RV park and how do U rate it. Looked at RV Park Reviews, there are alot to choose from and we have not been there before, don't want to get one so far away, it's a pain. Thanks for your opinion(s).

You can reserve a year in advance - just Google Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta. This place is packed with RVs - lots of groups, Fantasy Caravans, Adventure Caravans, different manufacturer groups, and we're here with the Escapees Boomer group - 40 of us. We have a great spot with landings right in front of our window yesterday. We're dry camping for 12 nights for $270. They also have hookups - expensive. There's a free shuttle service starting at 5am until 10pm from our RV to the grounds.

We're having perfect weather but the breezes hamper lift-off sometimes. Hopefully, tomorrow. We'll be on the field at 5:30 a.m. every day.
You have the best place in the house! We were there about six years ago with the Boomers. It is a great group to see the festival with. Did you get to do the zoo this year? I guess we should do it one more time before we quit. Judy and Luke are great hosts.

Dave,
The location of any RV park in the area (outside the Fiesta area) is problematic. The Balloon Fiesta starts about 5:00 am and all the roads in the area are just packed. You have to get up really early in the morning if you want to stay outside the Fiesta grounds. (Basically, you have to be on the road by 3:30 am if you want to be there for lift-off.)

Since the Fiesta is really based on two events a day (morning lift-off and evening glow) you would be going back and forth twice a day. (And you pay separate parking for each time.) It is just so much more convenient to stay on the grounds.

And don't let the concept of no hook-ups (dry camping) keep you from staying on the grounds. There are trucks that offer black tank draining and fresh water fill-up during the whole event. Moreover, you can run your generator when you need it. And you will be turning in early in the evening (believe me). My wife and I originally booked for four days and ended up staying there eleven days. It is a great event!
Bob

Which is by far the BEST WAY to enjoy the Fiesta! The year we crewed, the winds were so swift that we ended up all over the place on the pick-ups. I still feel a kinship to the team we worked with.

And something else to keep in mind: If you can lift 40 to 50 pounds (and walk about 40 yards with it) you should seriously consider working with a crew. (I put the distance on this since our balloon always seemed to land in a field somewhere. This is not a restriction placed by the Fiesta folks.)

There is a tent there where you watch a 45 minute video on what to do and not do as a crew member. After you view the video you go to another tent to sign-up. They have lists of all the balloons that want extra help. You can sign up for just a day or more. The best part of working on a crew is that you get a free pass to all the events. So, if you go to the Friday launch and all the other "events" you essentially get admission to all 15 "events" for free. (I think the cost for each used to be around $6 apiece. So, it can really add up.)

Just something to consider.
Bob

You are so right Bob. Ballooning is very interactive if you want to get in the middle of it. There is so much fun to be had. Enjoy!

Good information! Definitely stay on the balloon grounds - various prices. You can't imagine the traffic coming into the grounds each day. Staying on the grounds entitles you to free shuttles right to the grounds. It's so easy. Also, definitely sign up to crew. You'll get free admittance to the grounds morning and night - a savings of $16/per day per person this year. You'll also get various other perks available from your balloon pilot and some tailgating festivities.

We'll be crewing tomorrow for closing of the Fiesta. We've had an awesome time the past 12 days. Leaving on Monday morning after the mad rush.
