Enjoying the Albuquerque balloon fest!

My wife and I are checking off one of our bucket list items, attending the Albuquerque balloon fest. Yesterday was the first time I'd been up, dressed and out the door before sunrise since I've been retired! As I've already said, we couldn't have been closer to the balloons if we'd climbed into one of the baskets! Thought I'd post a few photos.

We are also there. The newspaper said over 550 balloons launched yesterday. Today the upper winds were to strong to launch but they have plenty of activities to keep a person involved. I also heard there are about 6000 RV's so if you don't like crowds you want to pass on this one. Personally, I don't care for the large crowds but this is a great event and worth putting up with the crowds.

We attended earlier this year for the first time the balloon and wine festival near Temecula CA. Had a wonderful time - exceeded expectations. Albuquerque balloon festival is now on out want-2-do list. Highly recommend to all to attend a manor ballooning event.

Wife has been ballooning and wants to go. Is there on site camping with hook-ups for a motor home and how early do you need to reserve ?

We're here, too!!! We'll be crewing all week. The balloons are awesome and a terrific fireworks show last night. No lift off today because of the winds but they inflated on the ground so not to disappoint the thousands of people on the grounds. Tonight is the balloon 'glow'.

You can reserve a year in advance - just Google Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta. This place is packed with RVs - lots of groups, Fantasy Caravans, Adventure Caravans, different manufacturer groups, and we're here with the Escapees Boomer group - 40 of us. We have a great spot with landings right in front of our window yesterday. We're dry camping for 12 nights for $270. They also have hookups - expensive. There's a free shuttle service starting at 5am until 10pm from our RV to the grounds.

We're having perfect weather but the breezes hamper lift-off sometimes. Hopefully, tomorrow. We'll be on the field at 5:30 a.m. every day.

We're with a tour group but water & electric sites, we're told, go for $65 per night. Some of the dry camping sites I've seen are on impossible slants or slopes.

We may just have to join you all next year, since the city of Colorado Springs is doing their absolute best to send the largest, longest running balloon festival in Colorado to somewhere else! City politics at their finest. . .

Hopefully, Albuquerque is watching the mockery in Colorado Springs. See you next year.

I'm not sure where you looked but the whole area where we are is absolutely flat. We're on the south side of Alameda.

We also are south of Alameda - not absoutely flat but only need a little adjustment if any - at least in the part we are in. I was told this portion holds up to 1600 RV's so there is bound to be some ground differences.

Come on over to the Chase Crew Tower, (N of main stage) and sign up to crew. Or just to say Howdy!
Look for the golf cart with the large Chase Crew Flags.

Bruce.. We were regulars at the Colorado Springs even for over 5 years.. One of the best kept secrets around..
Politics seems to have reared its head on this one.. Will miss it..
Went to Albuquerque a few years ago.. But couldn't stand the crowds or traffic.. And 3 of 5 days too windy!
Just Saying..
