Estes Park area

Plan on being in Estes Park, CO mid August.
Just outside the entrance to Rocky Mountain Park are a few campgrounds that can accommodate a 40' class A.
Looking for feedback on staying in this area for a week and the associated campgrounds.

Hi,
It's been 3 years since I was there. At that time I did not like any of the CGs in the Estes Park area. Ended up staying at Elk Meadow. This seemed to be the best of the worst. From now on, I'll stay on the west side of RMNP. The CGs are worn and torn. Interior roads are poor. Their definition of a pull through site is very different than mine. Maneuverability in the CG is poor.

RMNP is great but hard to get in during the summer. The Forest Service CGs along the Poudre are great but no hookups. The dispersed camping to the north of RMNP near Long Draw are excellent as is the dispersed camping along the Laramie River.

Agree with GaryKD. We stayed at Elk Meadow 'Resort' as well. We stayed late July-early August and although the description is accurate, we would stay there again. Close to the park entrance and to town.
Weather was great during our visit.

Don't miss the Old Fall River Road...takes you to almost 12K feet in elevation and the Alpine Visitor Ctr. via a one way 13 mile dirt road. Lots of deer and Elk to be seen along the way. Although we never saw them, Elk are said to walk thru the CG at dusk and in the early morning hours. Trail Ridge Rd thru the park is spectacular too.

Do not even think of taking a rig up Fall River Road. It was hard enough in a long bed club cab 4x4. Just about had to make two tries on two turns.

Some of Estes Park was flooded this past winter, not sure which if any cg's will be open. We saw from the tv news most were under water. Call first.

Hopefully, he was suggesting the OP use his toad on the Fall River Road. I don't imagine anyone has ever made it in their "rig".

We stayed here and enjoyed it and the proximity to the park and village. The park was quiet and clean. http://www.campgroundreviews.com/view_ca...-at-Marys-Lake

All the campgrounds are open after last year's flood. Estes is back to hectic normal. With your 40' MH you would fit in Moraine campground IN the park itself. That would be our first choice. We volunteered at Glacier Basin on up the road from Moraine and there are a few you'd fit in there, also.
