Facilities Near The "DUNES" San Luis Valley, Colo.

Wife and I are new to Rv'ing. Been thinking of where to go once the "bugs" are ironed out of her 2005 Keystone Hideout Toy Hauler. Remember reading a book 10 yrs ago about the San Luis Valley / Dunes area that was mostly highlighting the "Paranormal" activity reported there.

Has anyone been there, and have experiences to share? It's not a LONG drive from PHX, and the Dunes seem to be an attracton in their own right.

Thanks in advance for any kind input!

San Luis is the oldest city in Colorado! If you google "Paranormal activity in the San Luis Valley", you will find several websites devoted to it, including maps of interesting things to do. There is a UFO observation deck near small towns named Center or Mosca (very small), I am sure it will be mentioned on the website. We always stay at the Great Sand Dunes Nat'l Park, but there are other private campgrounds in the area. If you have kids, or want to act like kids, take some waxed cardboard and slide down the sand dunes! Not sure what you take in your toy hauler, but you will be able to use it all around that area. Medano Pass is a 4x4 road that goes east from the Sand Dunes, if you are looking for a serious adventure. Just remember, it is Colorado, and the weather is unpredictable starting now! If you go to Villa Grove, there is a nice hot spring resort, not too big or fancy but great soaking pools. If you tell us what you like to do, we can give you more ideas. Bruce & Judy

Been a while since we have been to the Sand Dunes, but it is a very interesting place to visit. Planning on going again next year.
