Favorite Golf Destinations

As an avid golfer and one new to the RV world, what are some of your favorite golf destinations. I have been fortunate enough to play some of the best courses in the country, but have never travelled by RV and am interested in hearing from those that have.

What are some of the great RV Golf Resorts?
For those that travel to golf, where are your favorites?

Our favorites have been places that we just happened upon. Some state parks have very nice golf courses with nice CG's as well. Georgia is one of them. We avoid the destination type places for golf (Myrtle Beach, Pinehurst, etc.). We look for value and not big names. AL and the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail is another example of overpriced golf. But if you don't mind dropping a C note or 4 of them for golf then its a different story.

We go on the cheap when possible. If you are Good Sam, then get the Golf Card through them. On our last renewal it was $99 for 3 years for one person with a second card available for free. Join and get the first card, then call for the second complimentary card. They do have a dual membership, but it is about $99 for one year.

Maumee Bay SP in Oregon, OH was another great find as well as was Grayson Lake SP in KY.

Coushatta Casino in LA has RV park and nice golf course (Koasati (sp) Pines GC)

Lake Osprey RV resort in AL near Gulf Shores has a golf course adjacent (Soldier Creek GC)

Stephen F Austin SP in Sealy, TX has full hook-ups and and adjacent course.

Lajitas, TX (Big Bend area) has Maverick Ranch RV park and Black Jack GC ( I haven't been back since the old Ambush course flooded out - its on the Rio Grande- but Ambush was a beautiful course)

Silver City, NM has a great muni course and a great summer climate. Several RV parks there.

Thanks jwomack. As an avid golfer, I am glad to hear that there are choices and it seems to be plentiful.

Played a nice little mom and pop course up in New York state while we were staying on Association Island. Don't remember the name of it but it wasn't far off the island. I believe it was a par 4 course the rates were good and during the week there was no one else around. I basicaly had the place to myself!

Golf

Gulf Shores, AL area has great golf courses at reasonable prices. I've been here two months, played 3 or 4 times a week, and never payed more than $50! There are good deals to be had here with discounts galore!!!!

I've tried to golf a few times. The problem is when I get out on the course, all I see is a motocross park.

Leaving for Myrtle Beach on the 10th for a week of golf with 7 other guys. It's an annual trip we make every March. Lots of courses to pick from with great packages available. Also do a Pinehurst trip every fall. Going to a practice round at Augusta this year.

Haven't done True Blue, but have done Caledonia. We try to do different packages every year. It sort of gets the season started when we return to western PA.

I believe Caledonia and True Blue are still sister courses. You can get a half proceed replay on one after having played the other on the same day, or at least it was that way a couple of years ago. Helps take the sting out of the wallet for two really fine courses. Another of my favorites in that area is up on the North Carolina side, Thistle, as well as The Witch just south of Conway on 544.

There are four courses in the Ohio parks system, with Maumee Bay (mentioned previously) being my favorite. Deer Creek was a fun, if fairly straight forward, play as well.

I also second the purchase of the Golf Card. Saved quite a bit of money with that little gem over the years.

Looking forward to monitoring this thread for some new gems to play this year.

When we pack up of the RV for our tips, we have dedicated an entire section of basement storage for golf clubs and our golf supplies. So we will be hitting a lot of courses that are RV friendly and will update this thread along the way.
