Finding a good place to camp for a month or two, with a family, in central florida

We are trying to find a place to call home for 2-3 months within 30-45 minutes of WDW. We'd prefer a quiet place, ideally on a lake for fishing. Full hookups. We found a couple places we thought would be perfect, but they are 55+ parks. We do have kids (ages 9-16) but we don't want to be in a family dominated park. Frankly, we like the quiet (and so do our kids). They want to fish, enjoy the outdoors, and help out around the grounds, etc. The kids have school for a couple hours each day and they'll be involved in swim training for college. Anyway, I'm looking for ideas to check out. We definitely don't want a "parking lot with spaces packed like sardines and no trees".

The KOA @ Lake Whiperrool is on a lake and has great ammenties. It is SE of Orlando just off I-4. We have stayed @ All three KOA's in the Orlando area over the years. Fort Summit to the SW is the quietest, Kissimee is the noisesest, and Whiperrool has the nicest ammenties! Nice location for the kids! Good luck.

Cautionary note on KOA's. I have contacted a few KOA's over the last few years and non have had monthly rates. The ones I contacted told me the monthly rate would be the daily rate X number of days in the month.

Its individual policy at each KOA since they are mostly independently owned. We are staying at a KOA in Washington state right now and they offer a weekly rate which is effectively one free night compared to daily. They also offer a monthly rate with metered electric.

Thank you! I had only checked out one of the KOA's and don't remember which one it was. Didn't like the 'feel' of it from the pictures. Normally we aren't so picky, but we'll be there for a few months so I'm a little pickier . I will check out the other two and call for monthly rates.

Considering just taking our chances and heading down without reservations. Has anyone done that during high season?

I live in central florida and without reservations in high season you most likely not find a place where you can stay for 3 to 4 months without moving. When the snow birds arrive the RV parks are full. The good ones even more so. Try tropical palm RV park. I like them a lot. They just now a passport america park. But they offer both weekly and monthly rates. Reservations a must there. Fishing questionable Also Bee's RV resort an option

We had a small rally at Merry D RV Sanctuary (http://www.merryd.com/MerryD/Welcome.html) a few years ago. The place is not fancy but it is quiet and clean. I don't remember if there are fishing opportunities there or not but you could contact them directly.

If you can talk with somebody in authority, most places will cut you a deal on a monthly situation exceept for the high season of Jan, Feb, March or April. I live in Central FL and we never plan ahead much. Getting a little further away from Disney, can make a big difference in price. There are several campgrounds that might work at the intersection of I-4 and US 27. Don't know the names, but you can look it up easily. Good Luck.

Look at turkey lake camp ground. Not shure thay will let you stay that long but its worth looking into.

Haines Creek RV park. You can Google their web site. May not be as close as you want but quiet. Snow birds in winter, but they left us come for Leesburg Bikefest. No pool, but creek between 2 lakes for fishing.
