Finger Lakes in September

We are tentatively planning a trip to the Finger Lakes in mid-September. Although we’ve always made reservations before leaving on a trip, I am considering not doing that this time and being a bit more flexible in our traveling. We’re considering Watkins Glen, Corning, Letchworth State Park areas, etc. As a side note, we’re FHU folks at this point – maybe venturing out with no septic for a day or two – baby steps! Wondering if this is a good idea for that time of year. Thoughts?

Midweek should not be a problem. Weekends might be. The state parks have a reservation system and varying electric availability so the good sites get booked early for the weekends. FHU will be a problem with state parks, not so much with private. It would be a good idea to get reservations for Friday and Saturday nights. The rest should be manageable.

FWIW add Hammondsport to your list. The Curtis Museum is worth a stop.

We use NYS parks frequently. Most all of them are electric only.... very few with water hookup and none that I'm familiar with have sewer hookup. But, most are beautiful and well maintained. We enjoy them.

September shouldn't be too much of an issue, but on nice weekends, folks will be trying to get the last few trips of the season.

To add to what others have said, you might want to make sure that your propane is full as it can get a bit chilly at night here in Western and Central NY.
