Thinking of heading up to the Finger Lakes and was wondering if anyone has some suggestions of CG's or places of interest to visit.

Aboslutely wonderful area. You might look at Watkin's Glenn and the lake there. There is a wonderful dinner cruise you can take up the lake in the evening that well worth the trip. They say the state Park is fabulous. It was easy access for our tour busses. There are more vinyards than you can care to count.

Corning Glassworks is an interesting day's visit, also.

Here is some information about the 'Wine Trail'. Great places to visit and sample the wine. One suggestion though, bring a 'designated driver' with you. After the 4th or 5th winery stop, you will be feeling pretty good....

Also plan on visiting Watkins Glen, Corning Glass, & Niagara Falls. Campgrounds are plentiful. We prefer the state parks over the private ones.

Cliff,

While your that far up, you might want to consider a trip to the Thousand Islands region. We left New England via Burlington, VT on our way to Urbanna and loved the area. Lots of things to see and do along the St. Lawrence seaway. For NYS, the prices were very reasonable and there is quite a bit to see and do. It is a place we will return to again.

Check the Jun/Jul2010 Bounder Beacon's See, Stay column:

Thanks, I did see that but passed over it at the time as we've been there and didn't realize that we were going back this year.

Thanks to all that responded and hope others will add some more ideas.

I think it's going to be a great trip.

I'll second Watkin's Glen. Just don't do it on NASCAR weekend. The Watkin's Glen State Park is just above the gorge. It has many sites, but if I remember only one loop has electric. We did get a nice electric site, but over-all the roads thru the 4-5 loops are rather tight. In the electric loop there were many large RV's.

Some I really don't know how they got their rigs into their sites. Here is a link to a few of my Watkins Glen State Park pix's The WG gorge is about a mile and quarter long with 20+ waterfalls and 555 steps.

You might look at Sampson State Park and Keuka Lake Sate Park. Also, about an hour south of Watkins Glen is Ives Run, a Corps of Engineer's campground in Tioga Pa.

KOA is centraly located.
Watch out for the big hill going to town.
Don't miss the wineries!!! (Bet you can't get to all of them)
Bring a DD for sure!
They all ship their pruducts. Bring money.
Check out the track at Watkins Glen. If there is not a race going on they open the track to the public around 12-1PM. You can drive your toad on the track and follow a pace car. Bet you can't keep up with him! It is real rush....
