Fla bound

Hello all. So excited to take our new MH to Fla this winter. Had planned on Ft Myers area to start, and making our way to the Keys. Have recently been warned of "ft myers high crime rate". Kinda bummed. Any recent snowbirds to that area? Suggestions for "new snowbirds"?? Thanx.

Try to PM Floridakamper he can probably help in the Fort Myers area. The Keys are very expensive I just returned from there last month but not with a motorhome. I did visit some RV parks and state parks to see what they had to offer and their rates.

We've spent lots of time over the last 10-12 years in the Ft Myers area and crime is not a particular issue. I certainly wouldn't let it influence my travel there.

If you stay in a quality rvpark you won't have anything to worry about.

The first time we went to New Orleans people had us convinced we'd never return alive.

We've been there four times now and we are still breathing. Don't believe all you hear.

Hi CinThom,
Fear not Ft. Myers. Go and have a good time. Take normal precautions is all one needs to do. I'm headed over that way soon. If you can get a site, consider Upriver RV Resort | Camping, Fishing, Boating, amenities, and more in Fort Myers, Florida

Ridiculous, We are on our 4th trip to North Ft Myers. Most of the people are over 80 and need help swatting flies. It is a nice town and warm.

Spent a few months there, 2 and 4 years ago. Rode bus system, shopped in Malls, went to the beach, no crime wave.

We have lived in New Orleans (part time or full time) now since 2008 and we live right near the French Quarter (the Bywater) .... knock on wood, we are still alive, have never been shot at and have only had our car ransacked (but we left the doors unlocked). And did have the tire on the back of our jeep stolen - but now have locking lugnuts. So .... moral of the story - go anywhere in the US and there is crime, just don't be stupid and you will be fine. Go to Fort Myers and enjoy yourself ... quit worrying ....

I'm glad I don't live in New Orleans. I would have died of Muffaletta overdosing from Central Grocery. That is unless the Cafe Du Monde Beignets didn't kill me first...so maybe it is a dangerous place now that I think about it.

Fla bound

Get high on powdered sugar and try Beignets at other places, Cafe du Monde is OK, but there are better Beignets out there!
