Anyone think we might have a chance at a spot at Pelican Roost, Mayport, Fl Military campground in January for a month stay? Iif not, what other Military campgrounds in Florida would you recommend?
Will be the first time in distance and extended stay. Hope all goes alright.
We are leaving 12/30 going to WV for the grandkids for a few days, then to Columbia, SC., fpr 10 days, then on to FL.
Doug and Denise

My best guess is that you will be able to find a spot at Mayport in January. It's relatively cold that time of year in this area so there should be vacancies.
Look into Camp Blanding near Starke, FL. The CG is right on Kingsley Lake. Personally I would think Camp Blanding CG would be nicer weather-wise in January than Mayport.

oh yes
camp blanding is GREAT, its isolated but really nice, we used to spend every other weekend there for 12 years

mayport on the river is good as well, and its close to lots of good food.
singeltons in the town of mayport is the spot for lunch, great food and atmosphere

It's on the other side of the state, but from what told by friends who have utilized it, Oak Grove at NAS Pensacols http://naspensacola-mwr.com/leisure/oakgrove.htm is great.

Thanks for the info. Hopefully I will get to use it. Blanding sounds interesting, so does Destin.
Had to stop in Charles Town, WV to drop off grandkids and work on the front brakes. Disc pads wore out on one side. Big job. And trailer wiring shorted and kept blowing fuses on the waay here also. Rewired that. All new. Will leave here tomorrow morning 1/3/2012. Headed for Charlotte, NC. Any good military or other campgrounds around the or on Wylie lake?
Thanks
Doug

You might like the following site, since you like military RV sites:

U.S. Military Recreation Facilities

You may want to look into Patrick AFB FamCamp. Patrick is located close to Cape Kennedy and about 1 1/2 hr drive to Disney World and the other Orlando attractions. There are also some nice Florida State Parks and County/City Parks.

I understand the NASA CG at the cape now allows military access to their CG.

Kings Bay GA has. Nice facility, although not convenient to much.

Macdill AFB has a nice park, actually two parks. Word on he street is that it's hard to get into during the winter if you're not one of their regulars.

Pelican Roost, Mayport, Fl has a number of restrictions on who can stay, but Jacksonville Naval Air Station is much more open. I have not stayed there, but have called andd talked to them. Very helpful and friendly.

use this site: U.S. Military Campgrounds and RV Parks

What would be some of the restrictions as to who or what can stay at Pelican's Roost?
Thanks,
Doug and Denise

Use the link provided and see for yourself. Best way and then you can look at other sites at the same time to see what works for you.
