We are planning to go to Florida late January2013. Leaving from Bathurst NB Canada. What is the best route for that time of year? Would it be better to cross border at Houlton Me or to Montreal La colle and take 87, 287, 78 on down or cross at Houlton Me 95 most of the way?

I think it depends on how tolerant a person you are. As for me, I'd do anything to avoid the metro New York and New Jersey mess. If time and extra distance aren't an issue for you, I think the 87 route is a better choice.

I'd be inclined to cross at Champlain on I87 then take I90 west to I88 south to I81 and you know the rest....
