New to RVing. First weekend was at KOA. Was packed and not real relaxing. Where can I find info on campsites that are a bit less jammed and maybe more upscale in Florida? Close to Tampa/St Pete. Thx

You might want to look at Ft. Desoto (Tierra Verde) or maybe even Lazy Days in Seffner. A good site to get some ideas is www.rvparkreviews.com. One thing to remember is that we are now entering snowbird season here in Florida. Expect campgrounds to be full and crowded. Staying during the week is one way to enhance your chances. We are winter Fl residents and most of our weekend trips are Alabama or Georgia to find space without reservations far in advance. Enjoy your new rv.

Lazydays is pretty nice. Ft Desoto is awesome if your rig is under 40', it's hard to get a reservation though. Alafia State Park is nice and has great bike trails. Camp n Water is fun if you have a boat otherwise skip. Sun N Fun further south is quite nice too.

Yup, try Bay Bayou in Oldsmar between Tampa and Clearwater on the very N. tip of Tampa Bay. Great location and easy access to Tarpon Springs, Clearwater and St. Pete, or West into Tampa. A VERY nice park!!

Also look into Hillsborough River State Park and the Hillsborogh County Regional Parks( Simmons (on Tampa Bay) Lithia Springs ( on the Hillsborough River), and Meddard ( on a resevoir) ) . All within an easy drive of Gulfport and reasonably priced, especially compared to commercial CG's

Head a little north of the Tampa Bay area and check out Rock Crusher Canyon RV Park in Crystal River. Great state park like setting but with all the amenities.

A little further than previous suggestions, but then nothing is really far away in Florida, is Travellers Rest Resort just outside of Dade City. This is my 3rd season. You won't find anything better. Big sites, weekly entertainment, golf course, post office, fire hall, innumerable clubs and activities....Visit the web site. Travellersrestresort.com

I prefer supporting State Parks. They are cheaper than RV parks; the money is used to maintain the parks; and the "green" parts of the state stay green! Most of them have beautiful trails, interpretive centers, museums etc. You may even be lucky enough to be able to volunteer at a park. It beats being parked awning to awning in a sterile RV park.

Andiamo, you will get lots of specific suggestions for good campgrounds and RV resorts; but I agree with jzick, rvparkreviews.com can't be beat for doing the research yourself.
The only problem with rvparkreviews.com is there are no pictures, and, as they say, a picture is worth 1000 words. Campgrounds are very anxious to show you their office and swimming pool on their web site, but they very seldom show pictures of their sites. When they do, they usually only show their biggest and nicest sites. For that reason, we frequently use Google maps to assist in determining campground layout and to estimate site spacing.
Good luck and safe travels.

You got to rent a colf cart at the Fort, best fun and easy get around.
