Florida Gulf Coast Recommendations?

Our original destination from Texas was Destin; but, a property owner there just told my wife we'll be heavily restricted from doing anything with our two small dogs in tow.

Anyone have ideas for pet-friendly locations along the Florida Gulf coast?

Dogs will be no problem. Just check with the campground or read their policies on pets. Most campgrounds are pet friendly and if they are not, you will probably find them too snooty to stay there for other reasons as well.

St Andrews State Park @ Panama City Beach and a "new" site, St Rosa Sound at Navarre Beach are 2 we used last year.

We're currently here with our two dogs: St Rosa RV park

We're not too far west of Destin, in fact we've already visited that area once and plan to head back there today. It's close to the bridge over to the island and all of it's great beaches. It is right on highway 98 (at the intersection of 98 & 87) so there is highway noise, or would be, if it wasn't so hot and our A/C hadn't been on 24/7. Ask for one of the water sites, you'll love it (my wife doesn't want to leave). I have placed a review in the Campground Review section of this web site and RV Parks Reviews.

We stayed at Henderson Beach State Park last winter - very nice state park and pet friendly. Dogs are not allowed on the state park beach (from what I understand that is true everywhere in FL) and when we checked at the visitor center were told there are no dog friendly beaches in the Destin area. Henderson Beach SP does have a walking trail through the dunes - dogs are allowed there and on any of the roads throughout the park.

We live in St. Joe Beach. Between Mexico Beach and Port St. Joe Fl. You can stay at the El Governor across the street from the Gulf. St. Joe Beach adjoins Mexico Beach. The entire twelve or so miles is dog friendly! Go there almost daily. Pets are to be on a leash, however if it is not crowed we let our girls run and the Golden goes for a swim. Also close by is the Rustic Sands Rv park, you will love the area and the beach.

It looks like you are parked in the same slot we had last Fall. Last one on the beach row? Only negative we had was traffic noise from the stop light at night.

We just stayed at Woodsmoke RV park in Ft. Myers. Dog friendly, dog runs, dog walks, heated pool. Large pull thru sites, nice park. Been owned by same people for 46 years. Exit 123 on I-75 southbound... Hope this helps..

The only issues we found with dogs around Destin was that dogs are not allowed on beaches. If that is important to you, go a little further south to the Carrabelle area. Beaches there are dog friendly, and there are a couple of nice commercial rv parks there.

Not on the coast but the Stephen Foster Cultural Center state park has a very nice RV area for about $20 a night. (Not to be confused with the Stephen Foster State Park). This is not far from Tallahassee.
