Fort Desoto National Park, It's right on the water in St Petersburg. I do know that you have to make reservations quite far in advance. I grew up in that area and we had family functions there all the time. White sand and great sandbars for the kids to play safely. There is also a KOA in Madiera beach which is also in Pinellas county, they have the pools and boats for rent and just five minutes to the real beach. Get a grouper sandwich in Gulfport, the best anywhere. Lots of huge miniature golf places as well.... Just noticed you have teens, they will enjoy Clearwater Beach, major spring break place, Dunedin beach has a campground close by, don't remember the name though.

Fort Desoto Park is a great place in Pinellas County. Been there several times, only problem is the drive throughout the campground is very narrow in many areas and not every spot will take a large rig. Make sure you take a good look at the spaces and watch out for tree over hang. Several spots on the water good for fishing and boating in the pet area - no swimming here, but a short drive or bike ride to the north and south beach in the park, very clean showers and bathrooms. Getting reservations is the toughest thing so you have to be patient and keep trying. They always hold back 25 spaces for walk-ins. Good luck!

I know that http://www.bonitalake.com has sites available as I just made reservations. 10 Minutes at most to beach at Bonita Springs.

That is not the area we go to in Florida but have made reservations at Florida state parks. For any popular park, and most are you need to make reservations 11 months in advance to the day with Campgrounds and Camping Reservations - ReserveAmerica It is kind of a complicated process and tough to do if you are still working and can't count on the time off or be online at the exact moment you need to be to reserve.

Not being able to make a reservation until January means you may have to request being placed on a parks (don't limit yourself to one) cancellation list. If you plan to be there just for spring break, good luck.

We did Topsail and enjoyed it. Then discovered Ho Hum (yes that is it's name) near Apalachicola and really enjoyed it. Get a water front site.
