Hi,
We're going to spend part of the winter in The Keys this year. So far, we're looking at Lazy Lakes and Sunrise Parks. Other suggestions, or comments on these please.
Thanks,
Ernie

Hi Ernie n Tara,
At mile marker 39 there is a excellent Resort/Marina. It is called Sunshine Key. Go to Sunshine Key RV Resort and Marina Reservations | Big Pine Key Campgrounds and read about the resort. We have stayed there many times. We've also hosted and attended rallies at this resort. The advantage is there are things to do both North and South of the resort.

If you are going to stay on the Keys this winter one big suggestion.....
TAKE A GOLD CREDIT CARD. YOU WILL NEED IT.........

Nuff said ....

One other bit of info. There is a ''supposed really good BBQ place'' on the right going down from Marathon a few miles that is suppose to be superb. ITS NOT WORTH THE STOP. I would not let my dogs eat the stuff.

Nuff said again .....

That would be Porkys. Yes it is bad. Lived in Marathon 20 years. Franks for lunch on Tues. Hot Turkey open face , Key Colony inn very fair and okay food. That about covers Marathon. Lots of mundane food. Fresh fish at Keys Fisheries MM47 on bay side. Big Pine area, the only good place is No Name Pub. Great pizza and wings. No place to park your rig. Skip Mangrove Mamas across from Lazy Lakes. Next stop would be Key West.

Did not care for Sunshine Key RV Resort and Marina Reservations | Big Pine Key Campgrounds last time we were there (Dec 2009) they had sewage issues. Looked like they had a trailer for a golf cart to deal with the issue. Looking at the trailer seems to be a regular occurance. We were at the the hill and you know what they say about the flow.

If you're retired military there are two campgerounds in Key West. Other choices there are Blue Water about 12-15 miles east at about $90.00 a night and Boyd's about 3-4 miles east at $90-100 a night.

Everglades NP, Flamingo campground now has electric and water at their sites. We were there last April and the pedestals were in. They were doing the finishing touches.

I think you still will have to use the dump station.

The other campground in ENP, Long Pine, has no hookups or showers.

Memorial week and weekend, we stayed at Boyd's campground. Last campground on Stock Island before going over the bridge unto Key West. Catch the bus across the street from CG to downtown Key West $0.50. Last bus to CG is 1:00 a.m., otherwise, it's $20.00 for a 10 minute cab ride back. Boyd's is $$$ due to where it's located. Good site though. It's on the Atlantic side of the bridge. The only drawback is traffic, last twenty miles takes two hours. Anywhere on the gulf coast is good.

Boyds are tight sites and close together Blue Water has wide sites most with tiki huts and nice patios. My choice all being close in price is Blue Water, gated and very private.
