Is there a toll free number with which I could reserve in a Florida State Park?

Also, would I be better off using private CGs than SPs?

2Roadrunners, We stay in Florida state parks most of the time we are out, We prefer the more rustic back to nature type parks. We love wildlife.
I can't say you will be better off one way or another, most of it has to do with where you are going. Do you have a place in mind?
Florida state parks do have water and electric and of course a dump station or two. One has full hook-ups and that is Top Sail near Destin Florida in the Panhandle.
Salt Springs is another that has full hook-ups, it is located in the Ocala Forest near Salt Springs.
Any question please feel free to ask. I have a few picture of some of those I mentioned in my photo album.

Very nice of you to reply.

Well being as how I live a long way from Florida, when I go down I want to swim, so that would be my only priority actually. I do not particularly care where, but Destin is one of our favourites as is the entire Gulf Coast, however we have never been there in the winter ( Dec. 15- Jan.1 something like that) so do not know what to expect. We always go inthe spring or the fall, have no problems with boondocking or finding campgrounds. This time though, I'll be reserving.

Any ideas will be gladly accepted, believe me.

I think Destin would be too cold that time of year, even for you. I copied this for you though. This is about the Destin area that time of year.
January & February are our coldest months. Usually in the 50s or 60s for the high with few clouds. Temps sometimes reach the 70s on a rare spectacular day, with little or no wind. Winds can be high some days from the North, causing rough water well offshore (known as "Elephants marching" because it is humpy on the horizon). We usually have a few nights of freezing but usually not more than a couple of nights in a row. Snows lightly about every 20 years or so. The beaches are mostly deserted, windy, and brilliant with clear, cold waters. Not unusual to see a snowbird or 2 swimming. Lots of slow-driving, silver-haired snowbirds consider this the best time of year to visit with sparser crowds, cheaper rentals, and 2-for-1 dinner specials.
Maybe a bit farther down around Tampa would be better.
I've heard that over in St. Pete is the hottest place going right now. It is called Fort Desoto. If you look around on there website enough you will see a map of all the sites, you can click on the site number and it will show you a picture of the campsite itself. Very Nice Web-site. It is located in Pinellas County and is a county park. Reservations can be made on line. White sugar beaches as well. It is one of the hottest parks going at the moment Check it out. Thanks again. State Parks in the Keys are all booked from what I can see. Really hashing this one over, as driving three days to go to a beach and not getting into the water is a cold shower ('scuse the pun).

The new state park in the Keys CURRY HAMMOCK SP has room during that time period you are interested in . We were down in the keys a couple weeks ago and drove through it, It looks nice and they have room during that time. Not too many people are aware of it I guess.

a minor point, if you are trying to look up Salt Springs CG that Floridacamper recommended,
it is not an SP, but a Nat forest CG and can be found here:

Last winter it was hot(80) in North and Central FL till Jan 15 then chilly till March. Alright I call 60's daytime cold but not beach weather. Everyone has been having crazy weather lately. In Feb last year we were having 55 and my kids in PA were having some 60 plus days. Fort DeSota is very nice, we rode thru there but opted to stay in private campground for the swimming pools.
