I recently camped in a South Carolina state park and it had a trashy long stay element with people "personalizing" campsites with lights, fences, signs, multiple golf carts parked under canopies, satellite dishes with wires running through the grass and across roads and paths and other such low rent baggage: some sites looked like those rural slums with houses surrounded by junk. Nice park otherwise.

So I think it's wrongheaded for state park campgrounds to allow long stays, more so if the long stay people are from out of state. Turn the sites over; I don't like not having easy access to state park campgrounds in my own state because some "snowbirds" want to stretch out their stays in them. Those people should use private campgrounds.

The more I read here and the more I look around the various state park web sites the more I kind of like the idea of moving every week or two, especially for the first time snowbirding. State parks are beautiful and offer the things we enjoy and this way we'll get the opportunity to see more of a particular state, whether Florida or Texas.

I have come to the realization, though, that some serious planning is going to have to go into this to get continuous reservations through the winter months. But, we still have time.........
