Just did this run last month. I always AVOID Washington, Baltimore, Richmond stretch. Even at 4AM, it is a mess.
We went to Richmond, take 288 to 64 to 81.
Plenty of campgrounds along the way. But call first to make sure they are open.
Not sure why, but from Richmond north, it is a parking lot most of the time.
Another nice run is to brave the Richmond North toward DC, and Fredericksburg take 17 to 66 over to 81. 17 has some construction for the first 3 or 4 miles, but great drive after that.
We go to the eastern side of PA, but this gets you to the middle of the state, and the easiest on fuel over the hills up that way.
You could go up through SC, 26 to 77 to 79. Much more hills, and tolls.
Have a safe trip.

New Green Acres is a nice "quick overnight" campground on 95, not far from 26. A little shorter day than you planned, but thought I'd mention it. New Green Acres RV park - Walterboro, South Carolina

We drove the route I95, US17, I66, to I81 in March. Traffic was not too bad. US17 had some construction through Fredricksburg, but after that it was just rolling two lane highway to I66.

I drive a motorhome.

I stay at the Cracker Barrel in Pooler, GA and/or the Walmart north of Columbia, SC I-77 exit 22 and/or the Walmart/Lowes on US19 at Fayetteville, WV. All have numerous open WiFi available.
