Traveling from So Fla to Pipestem Resort, WV.
Staying overnight at Jax/Kingsland KOA in GA.
But need another overnight stay somewhere before we get to Pipestem.

Any suggestions on something between Kingsland, GA
and Pipestem, WV?

We haven't planned our route yet - so all suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks,

Jo

I don't have info on your specified route, but I do have info on Pipestem.

Pipestem is an older campground with pretty tight & short spaces. We were staying at BriarPoint CG at Stonewall & were thinking of going to Pipestem. Got to talking to another couple with WV licenseplates that were just a few sites down from us. They had a 30ft 5-r & told us they had a difficult time shoe-horning into their site at Pipestem. They recommended we not try it with our coach since we're over 37 ft, not including toad.

You're pretty close to the same length that couple had. Check with the campground to be sure you get a site you can maneuver in to.

Safe travels.

Anyone have any recommendations besides Pipestem RV Resort?

I have a 32 ft fiver & our friends have a 34 ft fiver.

Anyone been to Babcock State Park in Raleigh County? Or any other suggestions.

I am NOT at all familiar with West Virginia.

Thanks again, Jo

Jo,
We live in W.Cental FL and own a cabin & RV lot at Rock Ridge Resort, across the street from Pipestem. We have a 39ft MH and tow a Ford Ranger. We spend the summer up there and visit the state park almost daily. It is a wonderful park. I don't think you'll have any problem getting into a big spot this time of year. Just call and tell them you have a big rig and verify they have you slotted for a big site, and ask for one that is fairly level (hard to find anywhere in WV, the whole state is steep mountains) We have seen many big rigs in there, but they are frequently booked solid in the busy season which doesn't allow for flexibility. Even in the off season, they may be busy on the weekend, so I would advise you to not arrive on Fri or Sat, so they'll have more flexibility. This time of year should not be a problem, though.
If you are not used to back country mountain driving, be forewarned that the road (Athens Rd & Rt 20) getting there can be a white knuckle experience the first time. Just drive real slow. The locals are used to big RVs taking up the whole road and going 20mph!
It is a beautiful area. Take advantage of the indoor heated pool at the lodge, climb the tower, ride a horse on the trails, visit the local Pipestem Trading Post, go listen to the carillion bells at Athens Univ just down the road, take a drive to Sandstone Falls, the Sandstone Visitors Center, Grandview, Bluestone, and Hawk's Nest state parks (WV doesn't charge an entrance fee for most of their parks and they are gorgeous).
Email me privately ( lam_34669@yahoo.com )and I'll tell you where we stay on the way there and other stuff to do/see.
If you were going in May, we might be able to show you around.
