Florida trip
Hello,
We are planning our annual trip to Ft wilderness at the end of April. We are traveling down from NH. Due to our work schedules we were able to get two weeks off so we decided to leave earlier than planned. We are looking at checking St Augustine area and we are looking for suggestions as to campgrounds to stay at and things to check out. in the area. We should have three or four days to be there. Or if anyone has any suggestions on other places between St Augustine and Disney to spend a night or two feel free to let me know.
Thanks
Greg and Lorna

Don't know about availability but Anastasia State Park in St. Augustine is quite nice and "almost" on the ocean ... you can hear and smell the ocean but it's on the other side of the dunes ... bike ride or drive ... ample parking. A 37" 5'er is about max.
Welcome to Florida State Parks

Stage Coach RV Park is a nice, quiet place to stay. It is just off I95. There is a CW at the same exit. It's about 7 miles to St. Augustine from the CG. Being from Florida, I'm not big on having my coach so near the ocean. There is quite a bit to do in St. Augustine. Take the tour tram (two day ticket). You get to part at the tram HQ. Parking in St. Augustine is horrible. One can get on and off the tram as much as you like. The tram driver will provide passengers with the things to see and do as you drive by. Once you decide what is the order of events, one can re-board the tram and get off where there is something you want to see.

Flagler beach is not perfectly 1/2 way but close enough. The campground is nothing to speak of but one side of it is on the beach!

In St. Augustine I would suggest North Beach RV Resort. Large sites with plenty of vegetation separating you from your neighbor. Beach is across the street. Intercoastal is at the other end of the CG. As you head to the mouse, if you want to stay on the beach look into Coral Sands... it's a small RV park at a hotel. basically just sand, but you can use the hotel facilities and it is on the beach. Another option on the beach between St. Augustine and Orlando is Beverly Beach.
If you want to get away from it all, look into the National Recreation Area at Salt Springs. Beautiful FHU CG, in the forest with a nice spring on site. Pretty short drive to Orlando from there.
For things to do in St. Augustine, walk down thru old town-- George St.-- lots of nice shops and historic buildings. Nearby is Castillo de San Marcos National Monument , worth a walk thru. The trolley is worth taking to get you acquainted with the sites and layout of the town. The Gator Farm is interesting. The ghost tours is interesting also... many , many things to do and see in town... we go at least 1 or 2 times a year.

Two kids aren't going to find much to do at Stagecoach RV park in St. augustine. They don't have a pool or a game room. Nice park though, but probably more adult oriented IMO.

Stop in Savannah on the way down. The kids can get a civil war history lesson and not even know it

If you do stop in Savannah, you can dry camp for $7.00 at the visitors center and you are in easy walking distance of all that the historic area has to offer!

X2 on the Salt Springs Recreation Area. The "nice spring" on site is Salt Spring which creates a run (river) that flows 6 miles to Lake George. There is a Marina at the head of the run where you can rent boats. Great fishing!
