We are newly retired and are looking forward to using our new 5th wheel (33') to escape the icy winters in the PA mountains. We know that we are late in looking for a destination campground for Dec through April but wanted to make sure our plans to buy a 5er went through. We have a 12 year old Golden Retriever (62lbs) and find that many of the locations do not want our well behaved dog. Can you help me find a good place to stay? Thanks for any help you can give us.

Try Riverside RV Resort in Port Charlotte/Arcadia .... http://www.riversidervresort.com
five star rating and they just added a lot of new sites ... lots of winter activities if you are so inclined .... very nice campground ... If you are 'into' more rustic camping, 4 wheeling, etc. then Peace River Campground
http://www.peacerivercampground.com
in Arcadia is the only place to go ... either one you will have to take a day or two and canoe the Peace River

I will support the Riverside RV Resort. It will be difficult to get a spot, but you and your dog will be in RV Paradise!
There is minimal new spots available. Health or death is the only way that most spots become open. Gasoline and Diesel may make a few open spots this winter.

Try Sun 'N' Fun RV Resort in Sarasota http://www.sunnfunfl.com/main.html. They have the most extensive facilities and schedule of activities of any place we've ever stayed! Might be a little late to get in there for this winter, but it's for sure worth a call.

Dear Three Vagavonds:
I don't know if you found your Campground. We have a lot in a nice over 55 community. They have heaed pool, hot tub, activities every day. Just a few minutes from Disney in the intersection of I-4 and Hwy 27 in Florida. Rents for $450.00 per month with electric and water included. If interested call 863-944-5146

Thanks. We have not found one yet, but have friends in Punta Gorda and would like to be near them if possible. If things change, we will let you know. If anyone does have a lot for rent in the Punta Gorda or Port Charlotte area please let us know.

You may want to consider going to Encore in Crystal River. Your 62# dog will love it there. There are more dogs than people at that campground.

Thank you for the information. If you know, is there a noticeable difference in the temp. north of Tampa (Dec through March) as opposed to the Punta Gorda area? Dog situation sounds great.

There is an Encore park in Port Charlotte and several on US17 south of Punta Gorda but I do not know if they take dogs like yours. You might try Live Oak RV Park just North of PG on U.S. 17 or for a little more rustic try Lettuce Lake RV Park (863) 494-6057. also try Waters Edge RV Resort in PG (800) 637-9224 - don't know much about them, sorry

Thank you Fiver Driver and others that helped us locate a place for this winter. We have reservations at Riverside RV Resort, site 42. We will be heading down from PA the first week in December. (if our new F350 decides to run that far without trouble) Thanks again to all!

You'll like Riverside .. very nice park, lots to do. They also have Wi-Fi available. Since you have friends in PG they already know of places to go and see, but make sure they take you to Fisherman's Village for oysters, and if you like to go canoeing, come up to our neck of the woods to Canoe Safari and take a 1/2 day trip down the Peace River.

Welcome to Riverside. There are several of us that monitor this site that spend the winter at Riverside. The WIFI does not do the job unless they made MAJOR improvements. It uses satellite that overloads when everyone arrives. Works at 4 AM and is slower than dialup by 8 AM.

Thanks for the information on wifi. I had already contacted Campnet to see about their service. I think I will go with a phone instead. $50 to install and aprox $11 for basic service. Is that the best way to go when at Riverside? Thanks again for the tipoff.
